Maritza Mejia, Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara

Last year the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara awarded over five million dollars in scholarships and other awards to students throughout the county. This is a very incredible amount of aid that the nonprofit organization gives to college-bound high school seniors. In comparison, the largest scholarship foundation in Orange County gave about 1.5 million dollars in scholarships last year, much less money from a much higher populated county. Maritza Mejia, who works at the foundation, visited Anacapa today and told us all about the various opportunities to get money for college. She was also pleased to announce that, countywide, 70% of applicants for aid receive either scholarship money that does not need to be paid back or no-interest loans. Even better, she mentioned that every Anacapa senior last year who applied for aid got it! This is great news for our seniors and everyone else who is looking for some well deserved help funding their college education. For more info check out www.sbscholarship.org.
