The Untold Story of the Jesusita Fire

Students, parents, teachers and visitors gathered in Elliot Hall to hear Attorney Sam Eaton, discuss the legal battle following the Jesusita Fire. Sam worked to defend one of the people accused of starting the May 2009 fire, which resulted in the destruction of 80 homes and damages to about 15 more. Sam discussed the available evidence, as well as evidence yet to be explored, in an effort to illustrate a well-rounded picture of the fire and present a side of the story rarely discussed in the media. Sam presented evidence to an enthralled audience, but ultimately the question remained, how did the Jesusita Fire start? Sam’s answer: “I’m sure I have no idea.”

Student response:  “I was really impressed with Attorney Sam Eaton’s presentation on the Untold Story of the Jesusita Fire.  He was very clear and precise on every point he made.  He brought some documents and read specifically what was on the document.  He then would argue why the document didn’t make sense. He was very clear with his arguments.  He made it clear that he was doing his job correctly.  He proved by reading the documents that the rules on the documents were made after the accusation.  Sam Eaton made this presentation enjoyable by going in depth on the case instead of just giving an overview of it.  Sam Eaton was a great speaker to listen to.  I would like to have him come in again.” – I.
