Isaac and Esai Macario, Class of 2013, both play soccer for the Santa Barbara Soccer Club six hours a week. Their team won the SBSC Summer Cup Championship and the Fusion Tournament, and they aspire to play college soccer.Isaac says, “I like playing soccer because I enjoy the sport. It has been my passion for many years.” Esai says “I like playing soccer because it has been my passion since I was a child.” |
Bronson Whitney, Class of 2016, studies Parkour at the Santa Barbara Gym two to three hours a week. He has learned to do new tricks and aspires to be skilled and able to use Parkour in his life.“It’s challenging and good exercise.” |
Elena Alcerro, Class of 2017, plays soccer for AYSO five hours per week. Her team was Region 122 Champions in 2010 and she hopes to make ALL STARS next year.“Playing soccer is really fun, and it’s just one of those things that I love to do!” |
August Baxis, Class of 2018, plays soccer for One Soccer School Club four hours per week. Last year, his team achieved Bronze level players and now they are Silver Elite. August aspires to be a professional soccer player.

Lara Kostruba, Class of 2016, plays water polo at Aquatics Club nine hours per week including games. Her team relishes their many wins. Lara hopes to obtain a water polo scholarship to a good college, like Stanford University.“I love the water and my team so going to practice is the most fun thing in the world!!” |
Elijah Whitney, Class of 2017, studies Parkour at the Santa Barbara Gym three hours per week. He has been studying for over a year and hopes to be as good as the best free runners.“I like Parkour because it is challenging, daring, very dangerous, and it’s a good workout and helps with self-awareness.” |
Kassidy Hession, Class of 2015, plays soccer for AYSO three times per week. Her team is 2012 Champions for Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, and Lompoc.“My favorite part of soccer is my position as goal keeper. It’s a form of leadership on my team.” |
Randy Ross, Class of 2018, does running and swimming at Anacapa two days per week.“I like doing the stairs on the track and diving at the pool.” |
Haydn Brooke, Class of 2018, plays tennis five to six hours per week. Haydn is a member of the United States Tennis Association and aspires to be a professional tennis player or a coach.“I like playing tennis because you can forget about everything and have fun.” |
Emilia Artusio, Class of 2015, takes ballet at Gustafson Dance Studio three to seven hours per week. Emilia was able to wear pointe shoes after only a year and a half of dancing and was awarded a scholarship from SBDA. She plans to continue dancing and to just have fun with it.“I like being able to accomplish something in ballet, and then think of what you can do next by building on to what you just accomplished.” |

Odalys Gonzalez, Class of 2015, practices ballet at Montecito School of Ballet twelve to fifteen hours per week. Odalys was awarded a scholarship from SBDA and plans to keep dancing for as long as she can, even through college.“Even after eleven years, it isn’t boring, and after everything I’ve tried I’ve always stuck to ballet. It’s fun! I like the feeling of accomplishing new things and getting better every year.” |
Ali Powell, Class of 2015, swims at the Santa Barbara Swim Club nineteen hours a week. Ali came in 5th in the nation in the 50 meter free at age twelve. She’s aspiring to be in the Olympic trials this year and has her sights set on Cal Berkeley and Stanford in 2015.“Swimming keeps me happy and I have a lot of great friends that are like family to me there.” |

Dela Hatfield, Class of 2017, practices gymnastics at Santa Barbara Gymnastics Club twelve hours a week. She recently made it to the State Championships and while she doesn’t want to be elite, she wants to keep doing gymnastics for a long time.“I have just always loved it, it’s the most amazing feeling to finish a good routine or win a medal.”
