Anacapa Welcomes Two New Teachers

Two new teachers will be part of the Anacapa faculty beginning in the fall, as they join us for the 2015-2016 academic year. Emily Regan will head up the English Department, and Emily de Moor will be our new science expert.

Emily Regan joins us after recently earning her M.A. in teaching at Montclair State University in New Jersey. Emily taught in an outdoor school in Southern California for three years after completing her undergraduate studies in English at Franklin & Marshall College, before going on to pursue her graduate studies in education. Following her practicum, Emily won the 2015 New Jersey Distinguished Student Teacher Award in English Certification, a testament to her talent in the classroom. During her demo lesson in July, the students made very positive comments about Emily’s teaching, saying that she was energetic, engaging, positive throughout, and made the time fly by. In addition to her English expertise, Emily also brings her experience in physical education, having served in the past as a coach in both gymnastics and in swimming.

Emily moved to Goleta in July after a three week cross-country road trip and enjoys anything that gets her outside including hiking, camping and teaching herself to surf. Welcome, Emily Regan!

Emily de Moor Pic_ResizedEmily de Moor comes to Anacapa with an impressive teaching resume, which includes teaching science at Girls Inc and teaching assistant experience at UCSB.  Emily also has considerable experience teaching abroad, having served as a teaching assistant in South Africa, an outdoor group leader in Australia, and an assistant expedition leader in Vietnam and Cambodia. With her M.A. in Geography from UCSB and B.A. in Biology from Brown University, Emily is well-equipped to carry on the Anacapa tradition of excellence in the science curriculum. During her demo lesson in July, the students commented that Emily’s teaching was very engaging, and that she had thoughtful responses to questions while smiling the whole time.

In her free time, Emily loves to go on sunset beach walks, travel, garden, cook fresh and healthy foods, read the news, practice yogalates, hike and bike, and catch up with friends near and far. She is excited to join the Anacapa team, especially because of the school’s focus on community and experiential education. Welcome, Emily de Moor!
