Homeboy Industries Field Trip Inspires Anacapa

Experiential education is one of the many ways Anacapa School educates bright, young minds. Our all-school field trip to Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles is a perfect example of how we expand our more traditional, classroom learning.

Be sure to check out more photos at the end of this article!
Ask local sixth graders to name a favorite school year activity, and many will, without hesitation, mention “sixth grade camp.” Within the Santa Barbara community, the popular outdoor education programs have become an eagerly anticipated highlight of the elementary school experience, and since 1989, high school students from The Anacapa School have played an important role in giving sixth graders a positive camp experience.

Islanders Play Besant Hill in Soccer

Here is a report written by some of the students on our soccer team:
What we saw on Thursday afternoon was a team that is the result of more than three years of hard work. It is the continuous blend between experienced players and younger teammates with a clear vision for the future, and where every player takes part in the whole team. Anacapa started the New Year off with our first “First Thursday Open Breakfast Club” of 2011 with Fred Davis, who TIME magazine calls, “The most creative political ad man in the country.” Davis stressed that ads need to invoke an emotional reaction in order to be memorable and therefore, effective. Fred Davis is the Anacapa alum dad who created our COZY ad campaign. He uses few words and describes his language as “iconic” because in the overpopulated world of advertising, … Read more
Family Math Fair
“Fun” and “math” are not always found in the same place at the same time, but that is just what happened once again at Anacapa’s 17th annual Family Math Fair when our 7th through 12th grade students, parents, and friends worked to solve 12 different math problems in an hour and a half. The problems ranged from estimating the total number of candies in three differently shaped glass vases to complicated calculus, so there were challenges and success possibilities … Read more

JSA Fall State 2010
We sent our largest delegation yet to the Junior Statesmen convention in Los Angeles. Twenty-seven students, plus Gordon and Levi spent the weekend at the L.A. Airport Marriott.
Anacapa’s Douglas Throop shined during his rapid-fire debate on the death penalty in one of Fall State’s best debates. Both Douglas and his opponent from Dos Pueblos H.S. were well prepared with arguments from both sides as they spared in a new “speed chess” style back and forth debate.
Anacapa senior Connor … Read more
