Know When to Fold ‘Em

Origami is a new club offering this fall at Anacapa. Origami (from ori meaning “folding” and kami meaning “paper”) is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding, which started in the 17th century A.D. It has since then evolved into a modern art form. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques.

Commencement 2013

Anacapa’s graduation celebrated the seven members of the Class of 2013 at a commencement ceremony on June 14th at the Santa Barbara Woman’s Club (Rockwood), but the graduating seniors were not the only ones in the spotlight. Megan Nesland to Participate in Research Experience for Teachers

Anacapa science teacher, Megan Nesland, will spend this summer working in the UCSB Materials Research Lab as part of the Research Experience for Teachers program (MRL RET). The two-year program includes original research during the first summer and a focus on curriculum development during the following summer. Megan will work in the Stuky Lab, studying the biochemical behavior of blood-clotting proteins, and later create curriculum to make the research experience relevant to students at Anacapa.… Read more

“Anacachers” Take Hide & Seek to the Next Level

Several Anacapa students have been enjoying a new club  – Geocaching. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. The container stays in place, but the cachers sign a log and upload “I Found It” information to the Geocaching.com website.

Anacapa School’s students perfomed “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” on May 17, 18 and 19 before packed audiences at the school’s downtown campus.  The students transformed their classrooms into an undersea paradise for the classic tale.
